CAFOD Appeal for India Coronavirus Outbreak

STATEMENT FROM THE BISHOP OF EAST ANGLIA
The Bishop, together with the Catholics of the Diocese of East Anglia, pray for the repose of the soul of His Royal Highness, the Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. In mourning his death, we express our sincere condolences to Her Majesty the Queen and the Royal Family.
Prince Philip’s long life was marked  by an extraordinary example of duty and service to his Queen and his country. Countless individuals will have been touched by his many initiatives, particularly young people. His fidelity in family life, even in times of difficulty, has been inspiring.
May he now rest in peace.

Message from The Bishop, who Celebrates the Silver Jubilee of his Ordination to the Priesthood on Friday 4th December.

Dear Father, dear Deacon, dear Religious,
I will be celebrating the Silver Jubilee of my Ordination to the Priesthood on Friday December 4th. I would like to invite you all to come and celebrate with me in the Cathedral on that day, when I will be celebrating Mass at 10.00am. However, I realise that it might not be possible for us to come together if the present lockdown restrictions continue beyond December 2nd.
If the restrictions are lifted, I invite you to join me for the Mass in the Cathedral on December 4th. There will be a limited number of concelebrants, (who will be nominated before hand). All other clergy are invited to sit in choir – cassock and cotta, albe and a white stole if you ae intending to receive Holy Communion. I would also like to invite two representatives from each parish to the Mass. It would also be good to welcome a representative(s) from our Religious Communities. Sadly, the restrictions will , of course, prevent us from having any form of reception after the Mass.
If the restrictions are not lifted, or if you are unable to come to the cathedral, please may I ask you to remember me especially at the altar on the day. The Mass will be live streamed from the cathedral.
I would be grateful if you would include some information about this celebration in your news bulletin.
These last twenty five years have been a great grace from God and I thank him for them with all my heart – for me a day of true thanksgiving.
Please pray for me!
With warmest wishes and prayer for you all,
Devotedly in Christ,
+Alan

GROTTO INAUGURATION took place on the 8th of September at 6pm in the Garden. Fr John Williamson OCD from Gerrard’s Cross celebrated holy Mass and the inauguration of the grotto.
Thanks to all those who donated towards the expenses of the grotto. All are welcome to sponsor in every little way you can.

MASS BY PHONE AND RADIO Mass by phone is available 24/7 by dialling 01642 130120 thanks to the Diocese of Middlesbrough and Knights of St Columba.
Calls are charged at local rates and may be free if included in your phone contract's minutes. It may be of use to those who don't have the internet. Another resource is RTE1 which broadcasts Mass on 252kHz long wave every second Sunday at 11am.

CHURCH FINANCE / SUNDAY COLLECTIONS Your attention is drawn again to Church Finances. During the period of lockdown the parish income fell dramatically, only parishioners standing orders came in but the bills, Diocesan fees, Education, (St Mark's School) heating, lighting, Council Taxes, Insurances, housekeeping, maintenance (remember the cross?) all continued to pile up.

CHURCH OFFERINGS The gudelines for safe use of our churches affect how collections can be taken during Mass. Setting up a Standing Order is one way of overcoming these issues. If you have not already done this please consider setting one up. It can be done by downloading the direct payment form below.

GIFT AID If you pay tax you can increase the value of the money you donate to the church by £1 for every £4 you give at no extra cost to yourself. You just need to download and complete the 'Gift Aid Declaration' below.
If you already donate by standing order don't forget to review the amount you donate to see if it is appropriate to increase it.

PLEASE DO NOT SEND EITHER OF THESE FORMS TO YOUR BANK.

Offertory Envelopes, for those who use them are available to be collected at both churches.

FACE MASKS from 1st August all persons attending church services MUST wear a face mask. (Except those who are exempt - children under 11 those with valid medical issues etc)

CONFIRMATIONS 2020 Effects of Coronavirus
Due to the ongoing situation regarding Coronavirus, all Confirmations which had been booked for April, May, June and July 2020 are now cancelled and will not take place until after Easter next year (2021).
Adults that have been prepared for confirmation can receive the sacrament after normality returns by obtaining the usual permissions from the Chancellor, Mgr Eugene Harkness.
Apologies to the candidates on the bishop's behalf, reminding them that, as a 76 year old, the bishop must now remain in self-isolation until the beginning of June at the earliest.
